Chelsea vs Brentford: Premier League result and Average of players Scorecard 2023

Brentford clinched their third Premier League victory of the season dealing a blow to Chelsea in a dramatic West London derby at Stamford Bridge. Goals by Ethan Pinnock and Bryan Mbeumo proved to be the difference-makers despite Chelsea’s dominance in terms of shots.

The pivotal moment came when Pinnock unleashed a powerful header into the net from Mbeumo’s perfectly executed cross. This punishing header from Pinnock left Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez helpless.

In the dying moments of the game with Chelsea’s Sanchez joining the attack for a late corner Brentford’s Neal Maupay initiated a counter-attack ultimately setting up Mbeumo for their second goal. Chelsea’s profligacy in front of the goal was their undoing and despite coming close in the first half with Noni Madueke striking the woodwork they succumbed to their ninth home defeat of the year.

Brentford’s goalkeeper Mark Flekken had a relatively quiet game while the visitors defended resolutely and capitalized on Chelsea’s vulnerabilities in the counter-attacks.

This triumph elevated Brentford to 10th place in the Premier League table putting them one point ahead of Chelsea in the standings. The Bees continued to be a thorn in Chelsea’s side securing their third Premier League win at Stamford Bridge.

While Chelsea had the upper hand for most of the match Brentford managed to create opportunities of their own. Mathias Jensen’s effort was saved by Sanchez and their first goal was the result of Mbeumo’s excellent delivery met by Pinnock’s powerful header. Yegor Yarmolyuk had a chance on the break but was denied by Sanchez and Mbeumo narrowly missed another opportunity.

Under Mauricio Pochettino’s management Chelsea is still searching for their rhythm. They initially carved through Brentford’s defense with Madueke’s early attempt hitting the post. Cole Palmer’s impressive performance created a chance for Marc Cucurella but his shot was straight at Flekken.

However Chelsea’s wastefulness became more evident in the second half as they failed to register a single shot on target. Chelsea’s struggles at Stamford Bridge have been ongoing with just two home league victories since February and they have failed to score in four out of their ten games this season.

Chelsea will face Blackburn in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday while Brentford is set to host West Ham in the Premier League next Saturday.
