Veterans Day: County School Districts to Celebrate Veterans Day

Lawrence County school districts are coming together to honor Veterans Day this week with a series of meaningful programs and activities. It’s heartwarming to see our schools pay tribute to the brave men and women who have served our country.

Let’s take a closer look at what each district has planned for Veterans Day:

Ellwood City: The Ellwood City Area School District is organizing an assembly at 9 a.m. on Thursday at Lincoln Junior-Senior High School. The school’s Blue Band will set the patriotic tone with their music’ and veterans will be acknowledged and given the opportunity to share their experiences through speeches.

Laurel: The Laurel School District is displaying American flags across its campus’ symbolizing respect for our nation’s veterans. In addition’ there will be a Patriotic Tribute Concert at 7 p.m. in the Laurel High School auditorium. Band and choir students from various grades will join together to perform’ creating a heartfelt musical tribute.

LCCTC: The Lawrence County Career and Technical Center is involving students who were gold medalists in the national SkillsUSA competition. These students will participate in the annual Lawrence County Veterans Day parade at 11 a.m. on Saturday. They’ll be distributing American flags to veterans along the parade route. Additionally’ the school’s peer leadership students are contributing to the school’s Veterans’ Wall of Honor’ a touching way to recognize and remember local veterans.

Mohawk: The Mohawk Area School District is hosting its 25th annual Veterans Day program at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Scottish Rite Cathedral. This special event is sponsored by the Mohawk Future Business Leaders of America and the Cathedral Foundation. The program will include presentations from FBLA members’ musical performances by the district’s band and chorus’ a video presentation’ and a keynote address from local veteran Jack Seltzer.

Neshannock: The Neshannock Township School District is conducting an assembly at 9 a.m. on Thursday at the HHS auditorium. This event is organized by the Neshannock chapter of the National Honor Society and the high school student government. The Neshannock Honor Guard will present and retire the colors’ involving members from Boy Scout Troops 733 and 743. The guest speaker will be Jeffrey Sink’ a retired Army infantryman with a distinguished military background.

New Castle: The New Castle Area School District has not one’ but three programs planned for Thursday. Each of these programs aims to pay tribute to our veterans. Students will be performing patriotic songs’ and there will be special recognition for some veterans during these assemblies. Veterans will also enjoy a preview of the district’s fall musical’ “Little Shop of Horrors.”

Shenango: The Shenango Area School District is celebrating Veterans Day in each of its schools on Friday. The elementary school’s program will include students learning and reciting inspirational quotes and poems. Students will also perform the Armed Forces Medley. At the senior high’ AP U.S. government and politics students will host their annual assembly’ with speeches’ videos’ and a moment of silence to remember veterans.

Union: At Union Memorial Elementary School’ students are actively participating by displaying flags and honoring local veterans. Each community veteran will have a small American flag placed around the flagpole’ and veterans driving by can receive a thank-you card and a treat from the students.

Wilmington: The Wilmington Area School District has planned two assemblies on Friday. U.S. Army veteran Mike Crawford will be the guest speaker for both assemblies’ and there will be slideshows honoring students’ family members who are veterans. It’s a heartfelt way to show gratitude and respect to those who have served.

It’s heartening to see our schools come together to recognize the importance of Veterans Day and to pay tribute to the heroes who have sacrificed so much for our country. These programs and activities demonstrate our deep appreciation for the men and women in uniform.
